NOVEMBER 19, 1968
HEAD (prod. #8888), the Columbia motion picture starring that popular TV rockband The Monkees, had its West Coast invitational premiere at The Vogue Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California. The event is covered on local Metromedia Radio stations KLAC and KMET by DJ Elliot Mintz, who also interviews the band. Others attending the gala are "Mama" Cass Elliott, Boyce and Hart, Dennis Hopper (who cameos in HEAD), Peter Fonda (who later appeared with Hopper in the following year's hit Easy Rider), Denny Doherty, comedy troupe The Committee, Sonny Tufts, Tina Louise, Severn Darden (who guested in 2 episodes of The Monkees television series [“Monkee Versus Machine” and "The Monkee's Paw"]), Jack Nicholson (cowriter/coproducer of HEAD [with director Bob Rafelson]), and HEAD costars Timothy Carey, Carol Doda, T.C. Jones, Vito Scotti, Frank Zappa, Sonny Liston, and Annette Funicello.
Trivia Footnote: The Vogue Theatre, ironically, would be the exact same location which saw all 4 reunited Monkees being awarded a star on The Hollywood Walk of Fame on July 10, 1989.
